Mercedes Fernandez explains what makes a stonefish dangerous, where they are located and presents a case of a stonefish sting. She discusses the diagnosis and management of stonefish stings.
Surf injury prevention in young surfers and surf instructors – João Moreira Pinto
João Moreira-Pinto speaks about the studies he participated in about injuries that can happen during surfing, the prevention of these injuries, the knowledge of the surf teachers about this topic and how they teach about these injuries. Also, he speaks about the difference in injuries between competitive and recreational surfers.
Update on Drowning resuscitation, Ingvar Berg
Ingvar Berg speaks about drowning resuscitation with an emphasis on diagnosis and management of drowning patients from the beach to the Emergency Department. He explains what happens when you drown, what the different drowning grades mean and how you should act when someone is drowning and why.

Surfers as bystander rescuers in Spain and Portugal, Joel de Oliveira
Joel de Oliveira discusses his research on surfers as bystander rescuers in Spain and Portugal. He finds that 78,5% of surfers conduct at least one rescue in their lifetime, but most of them have not had formal training according to lifesaving and resuscitation guidelines.
Riding waves like a pro; the cocktail of surfing & medicine – Guillermo Carracedo
Guillermo Carracedo shares his experience as a doctor and a surf professional from Spain. He speaks about how he rolled into surfing and how he became a pro surfer.
Performance training and injury prevention in young surfers. An update from Portuguese research – Pedro Seixas
Pedro Seixas lectures on his PhD research about injuries that happen in surfing. He discusses the details of the highest scored maneuvers and the matching injury mechanisms. Furthermore, he shows the results of their research from injuries amongst Portuguese junior surfers to the performance of the surf pro’s and the biomechanical analysis of their maneuvers.
