Dr Olly Farley is one of only five people in the World who has completed a PhD on surfing performance enhancement.
Olly has been working within the Strength and Conditioning field for 12 years and in that time has completed a Bachelor of Sport (Coaching: Unitec), Post Grad Dip (Sports Science: AUT), Masters (Sports Science: AUT) and PhD (Sports Science: Edith Cowan University).
Olly was the head exercise physiologist at the Hurley Surfing Australia High Performance Centre (2013-2016) where he completed his PhD, including over 30 academic publications on surfing research and also aided in training the Australian WCT and WQS professional surfers. He was part of the team established testing and training protocols for surfers and established Surfing Australia’s High-Performance programme and their Pathway to Podium programme.
The past 3 years Olly has been training up-and-coming junior NZ athletes (Hockey, football, sailors, netball, cycling, swimming, sprinting and Paralympians) in the High-Performance Sport NZ Pathway to Podium programme – many of whom are part of NZ national teams.
Olly now runs his own Board Sports training business working with a number of surfers from beginners to WCT level and also contracts to High Performance Sport NZ and Snow-Sports NZ.
