After the big success of the first ever Advanced Surfing Medicine Life Support™ (ASLS™) course in 2013, we are proud to unveil the first details for next year’s successor. In may 2014 the ASLS™ will progress to a 6-day-course, giving you two extra days for more practical hands-on, more life guarding training and more challenging real-life scenarios.

Arrival day: Sunday 4th of May 2014. Registration 16:30 – 18:30, sunset surf session, welcome dinner.

Course dates:  Monday 5th until Saturday 10th of May, 2014.

Location: Vila Ana Margarida, Ericeira, Portugal, a 35 minute drive (45 km) from Lisbon airport.

Stay:  6 nights of accommodation included in the course fee. Cottages incl. kitchen, 2-3 persons. If additional nights before or after the course shall be arranged for you, please let us know.

Applicants: Medical Doctors, Allied Healthcare Professionals.

Aim: To prepare and train MDs in Advanced Life Support at remote surf locations, and to learn and master basic aquatic life saving rescue techniques.

Course fee: €920

Included: Welcome dinner, coffee breaks including snacks, closing dinner party, celebration drinks. Breakfast excluded, convenience store & cafe on the other side of the street.

Application: opening on 10th of November 2013.

The EASD ASLS Course features a wide array of theory from patient assessment, diagnosis and treatment of wounds, marine envenomation, musculoskeletal injuries, drowning and hypothermia, rescuing techniques, theory about waves, tides & rips among others. The participants get practical training by experienced surfing doctors, wilderness medics and surf lifeguard instructors. They will teach the ASLS™ students how to work with proper medical kits, splint injured extremities, and rescue victims in open water. The student will also obtain skills for evacuation management among others.

The skills training requires strong swimming and paddling skills. In order to enjoy the skills training during the course and learn as much as possible, we strongly recommend you to start training in advance to meet the ASLS™ fitness criteria which you can find as soon as the application opens.
