Get prepared with our official course book 2014, the latest edition of “Wilderness Medicine“ by Paul Auerbach. This book, often referred to as the ‘The Bible of Wilderness Medicine‘, extensively covers the ASLS™ medical topics, and more. This year a copy of the book (digital or hard copy, you chose) will be included in the course fee!

The ASLS™ Course features a wide array of theory from patient assessment, diagnosis and treatment of wounds, marine envenomation, musculoskeletal injuries, drowning and hypothermia, rescuing techniques, theory about waves, tides & rips among others. You will get practical training by experienced surfing doctors, wilderness medics and surf lifeguard instructors. You will be taught how to work with proper medical kits, splint injured extremities, and rescue victims in open water and you will also obtain skills for evacuation management among others.

Arrival day: Sunday 4th of May 2014. Registration 16:30 – 18:30, sunset surf session, welcome dinner.

Course dates:  Monday 5th until Saturday 10th of May, 2014.

Location: Vila Ana Margarida, Ericeira, Portugal, a 35 minute drive (45 km) from Lisbon airport.

Stay:  6 nights of accommodation included in the course fee. Cottages incl. kitchen, 2-3 persons. If additional nights before or after the course shall be arranged for you, please let us know.

Applicants: Medical Doctors, Allied Healthcare Professionals.

Aim: To prepare and train MDs in Advanced Life Support at remote surf locations, and to learn and master basic aquatic life saving rescue techniques.

Course fee: €920 including accommodation, course book (“Wilderness Medicine“ by Paul Auerbach), welcome dinner, coffee breaks including snacks, closing dinner party, celebration drinks. Breakfast excluded, convenience store & cafe on the other side of the street.
